Higher Ed IT Hardware Optimization Leads to Improved Staff Experience and Security Standards, Yielding $1.4M in Annual, Reoccurring Savings

This is an AArete Higher Education insight

Situation

AArete partnered with a university to deploy a standardization strategy for end-user computing. The challenge was the federated model of Higher Ed, the proliferation of spec requirements, and the inconsistent buying patterns. The primary goal was to improve security, reduce spend, and improve staff experience.

Approach

By leveraging a team of Higher Ed experts with a team of technologists, AArete helped establish a best-in-class program for computer refreshes. Acknowledging the challenges within Higher Ed, AArete’s change management team worked to build consensus and a repeatable go-forward process.

Results

In partnering with key university decision makers, AArete overhauled the span of control for end-user computing to allow for greater control. This ultimately lead to the use of 8 standard models that supported 90% of the campus needs, delivering over $1.4M in cost savings. The new operating model supported both an improved operating model, as well as a uniform end-point security strategy, helping serve an elevated staff experience.
